Host Site:
The Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health, a division of the Bloomberg School of Public Health, partners with American Indian and Alaskan Native tribes to raise health awareness and prevent obesity, diabetes, and other diet-related diseases in the community.
Through its nutrition promotion initiative, the center:
- Supports indigenous foods knowledge, growth and re-introduction
- Prevents hunger and food insecurity
- Increases local food production, distribution and access
- Promotes healthy nutrition and fitness across the lifespan

Service Sites:
Navajo Nation (Tuba City, AZ): Service Members rooted at the edible school garden at Eagles Nest Intermediate School bring produce from the school garden to local markets, aid in the development of farmers markets, and provide technical assistance to local farmers.
White Mountain Apache (Whiteriver, AZ): Service Members work with the edible school garden at Cibecue School, while also developing local food systems infrastructure and outreaching to tribal farmers.
Tohono O’odham Nation (Sells, AZ): Service Members with Tohono O'odham Community Action (TOCA) assist with efforts to improve nutrition in school meals through traditional foods; develop educational resources based on materials published by TOCA; and build and tend school gardens.
