Policy Landscape and Our Work
The Oregon School Meals for All Coalition continues to build momentum toward universal school meals. In January 2025, House Bill 3435 was introduced and came out of committee with a unanimous vote in support. If passed, it would require all school districts to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. The campaign launched with a press conference featuring Oregon State Rep. Courtney Neron, who highlighted the importance of ensuring all students are nourished and ready to learn. The coalition also emphasizes goals like increasing scratch-cooked meals, incorporating more locally sourced ingredients, and offering regionally responsive menus that reflect Oregon’s wide student population.
