Every year, AmeriCorps celebrates current service members and alums through a week-long salute recognizing the impact service members have as the boots on the ground for communities in need. This year’s theme is #AmeriCorpsWorks, highlighting how AmeriCorps members are getting things done in education, health & nutrition, environment, and economic development as well as with veterans & military families and in response to natural disasters.
As an AmeriCorps grantee, FoodCorps is committed to connecting kids to real food to help them grow up healthy. In my service, I engage kids of all ages in cooking, gardening, cafeteria taste tests, and nutrition activities. Moreover, I reach out to community organizations and attend meeting to learn more about the issues and how best to affect lasting change. Volunteer events are my favorite!
To kick off the 2015 AmeriCorps, below is are two videos (one in English, la otra en español) that give you a snapshot of the service AmeriCorps members provide across the country.
Do you know an AmeriCorps member in your community? Thank them for their service! You can show your support on social media, as well: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #AmeriCorpsWorks in your post (we love pictures!).
