On April 5, FoodCorps members participated in Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service in a variety of ways. In Connecticut, Alexandra Adler and Stacey Davis met with state representatives Rosa DeLauro and William Dyson. In Hawaii, Stephanie Loui and Jameil Saez attended a think tank at the University of Manoa to discuss challenges around homelessness. From Arizona to Mississippi to New Jersey, service members joined in local gardening and tree-planting events. At one special reception in Massachusetts, Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken honored FoodCorps Service Member Meghan Stratton and two of her fellow AmeriCorps members for their service in the community. “It felt really amazing to be so accepted by the community here,” Meghan shared. She’s in her second year serving with Backyard Growers; read more about what Meghan and her fellow FoodCorps members are up to on the FoodCorps Massachusetts blog.
