In New London, 2nd and 4th graders at C.B. Jennings Elementary School have harvested a variety of produce from the garden, including tomatoes, green and orange peppers, and even kohlrabi! It’s brought down to the cafeteria and sampled out so all the students can try fresh garden foods.
Over at the middle school, produce grown in CT from Malerba’s Farm, Hunts Brook Farm, and Palazzi Orchard is being served daily. They provide New London Public Schools with head lettuce, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes and apples. Kitchen manager Tina uses this to serve up tasty salads and fresh cut vegetables!
