In schools across Des Moines, kids learn division, grammar and increasingly about gardening thanks in part to the work of Iowa FoodCorps fellow Flannery Cerbin.
Cerbin, 26, has worked for FoodCorps since September. FoodCorps is a national nonprofit dedicated to teaching students about healthy foods and giving them the opportunity to tend school gardens. This spring there will be 22 such gardens throughout the city.
