The bus trip from Brownsville to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to visit Brooklyn Grange, the world’s largest rooftop soil farm, was well worth it for the third graders at PS 165. They learned a song about compost (Munch munch! Wiggle wiggle! Poop poop! Compost!), held worms, saw the chickens pecking away, harvested herbs, and played a game where they dressed up as pollinators. It was a beautiful day to explore how one of the biggest cities on earth is growing food; you may just have to look up to find it.
