Little Hands in the Garden: Extending Garden Education to Cherokee Elementary School

In mid-September, shortly after I began my service, something exciting happened- students at Cherokee Elementary School expressed interest in a garden club after catching wind that the Cherokee Middle School has been having a blast in their garden club.  My fellow service member, Katie Rainwater, and I were ecstatic when the teacher who runs after school programs approached us about pioneering Cherokee Elementary Garden Club.  Our first meeting was on Wednesday September 23rd, 2015, and we’ve been rockin’ ever since.  We meet with these twenty-two 3rd – 5th graders twice a week, rain or shine- Lucky us!  These are some photos that illustrate garden club’s happenings over the past month.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
