NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 19, 2018—Today, C&S Wholesale Grocers, the largest wholesale grocery supply company in the U.S., joins FoodCorps, a national nonprofit that connects kids to healthy food in schools, to commemorate National Hunger Action Month by announcing the winner and runners-up of the annual Victory Growers essay contest.
“However, over time I have come to realize that my identity as Latina is more than being able to speak perfect Spanish. Instead I consider my experiences that are inextricably tied to Latinx identity and how those have shaped who I am. I think about the family gatherings, full of salsa and soca, that always felt like a party, and which also often occurred at my favorite aunt’s house right here in the neighborhood where I am serving with FoodCorps.”
“We are trying to build on the good work FoodCorps has done here since 2011 and expand that to a wider geography and wider number of kids,” Norwood said. “We are very pleased and very excited to have Leah here. I think she will make contributions in other ways to the community.”
