This past holiday FoodCorps service members all over Connecticut found ways to incorporate Thanksgivings into many lessons and activities. In Norwalk, at my service site, the garden club students harvested every last item in the garden to donate to the food shelter in town. Lucky for us the weather has been warm enough where we had a lot to harvest.
Here we have some students harvesting sage, fennel and other herbs that have been flourishing! We also harvested lettuce, carrots, beets, peas, and some celery. Since the beginning of the school year we have been committed to donating our produce to the food shelter in town. We’ve been keeping track of pounds donated and glad we could bring more to the shelter for this holiday.
