This week was a busy one for Stephanie and I — from a stellar Farm to School training hosted by the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems to two taste tests highlighting cauliflower as the Harvest of the Month, we have been on the ground serving and learning from our community. Following are some highlights from the week:
Tuesday: Stephanie read “Sid the Science Kid: Why Can’t I Have Cake for Dinner” to a 1st grade class at Interlochen Elementary and taught them about the 5 food groups using My Plate.
Wednesday: Stephanie and I taught a 6th grade class at Platte River Elementary about food chains, food pyramids, food webs and the importance of eating primary producers that hold high amounts of energy in the ecosystem (fruits and vegetables). It was also our first taste test of the year at Platte River Elementary — Italian Herb Roasted Cauliflower!
Thursday: Our first taste test of the year at Frankfort-Elberta Elementary — Roasted Romanesco!
What’s next? Stay tuned!
