Lowell Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services is an active partner in Lowell Farm to School, a coalition of teachers, administrators, food and nutrition professionals, non-profits, local business and educators who collaborate to use local food and education to celebrate the culturally diverse community of Lowell. LPS Food and Nutrition Services (LPSFNS) invests in local fruits and vegetables that further enhance LPS’s school breakfast and lunch program, including its recent commitment to source 100% local lettuce grown at Little Leaf Farms in Devens, MA in the growing season.

FoodCorps members serving in Lowell will assist with following initiatives:

  • Assist in the Harvest of the Month program.
  • Provide local fruits and vegetables to participating elementary schools through the USDA Fresh Fruits and Vegetables program
  • Partner With Mill City Grows to put on a Farm to Table Family Cooking Classes each season
  • Partners with classrooms and 21st Century to provide nutrition education programming throughout the district.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A passion for food justice, food service, nutrition and teaching
  • Eagerness and open-minded to any tasks that come their way
  • A background in food production
  • Previous experience working with children K-4
  • An interest in growing and cooking with culturally-appropriate crops that reflect the diverse population of Lowell Public Schools
  • Familiarity with New England and Lowell specifically is also a plus!
  • Access to a vehicle is required
