Policy Landscape and Our Work
In Kentucky, no school meal legislation is currently active, but past proposals have highlighted the state’s interest in expanding access to healthy, locally sourced meals for students.
Senate Bill 48, introduced in a previous session, aimed to create the Kentucky Proud School Match Program, which would have reimbursed eligible school districts for meals served under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and encouraged the use of Kentucky-grown agricultural products. While the bill did not advance, it reflected growing support for integrating local food systems into school nutrition programs.
FoodCorps continues to support school nutrition and food education through direct service in Kentucky, working alongside schools to connect students with nourishing food and hands-on learning. These efforts align with broader goals to reduce food insecurity, promote local agriculture, and foster healthy school food environments across the state.
