Policy Landscape and Our Work

New York has officially joined the growing list of states with School Meals for All.

In January 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul proposed a statewide initiative to provide free breakfast and lunch to all public school students, building on the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). By May 2025, the proposal was passed, ensuring that starting in the 2025-26 school year, all 2.7 million students across New York will have access to free, nutritious meals every day—regardless of household income. This marks a major step forward in supporting student health, academic success, and economic relief for families.
