Policy Landscape and Our Work

In 2023, South Dakota HB 1221, which aimed to provide free school lunches to all students, was rejected by lawmakers. Since then, there have been attempts to expand free school meals, but they have not been successful. In 2025 HB 1089 was introduced, which aimed to expand free school meals, but it was also rejected.
