Policy Landscape and Our Work
Maine is the second state in the nation, and first in the region, to pass free school meals for all. Building on this success, FoodCorps’ focus in Maine is on institutionalizing experiential learning opportunities related to gardens, food and agriculture. The proposed Maine Experiential Education Program is legislation building momentum that creates food educator positions in every school district in Maine. Together, these complementary policies can improve academic, physical and emotional development for students and create a nourishing school meals and food education for all Maine students.
