Policy Landscape and Our Work
Montana does not have school meals for all legislation. HB 551 was passed in 2025 to make school lunches free for students currently on reduced-price meal plans, but the governor vetoed the bill in June. This bill would have eliminated the financial barriers for families who meet federal income eligibility requirements for reduced-price meals and reduces administrative burdens for school districts.
