Policy Landscape and Our Work

Nebraska does not currently provide free school meals to all students. In 2026, the state enacted the Hunger-Free Schools Act, creating a pilot program that allows selected schools to provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to students who qualify for reduced-price meals.

This is an important expansion, but it does not provide free meals to every student. Nebraska therefore does not yet have a statewide School Meals for All program.
