Policy Landscape and Our Work

Texas has not had statewide legislation implementing universal free school meals for all students. Thanks to the 88th Texas legislature, however, students who qualify for reduced-price school meals received breakfast free for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years. This move did not implement permanent universal free meals, but was a temporary expansion of free breakfast.
