San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School
San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School is located in the San Felipe Pueblo
The school serves the educational needs of K-8th grade Pueblo youth. We are an accredited Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) school committed to providing a culturally relevant and high-quality learning environment that develops young Pueblo scholars into tomorrow’s healthy and successful community leaders. We believe that the 21st-century global communities must care for, respect, and share Mother Earth’s resources. Our vision is to create a school community where our learners develop life skills that include all current and future technologies while preserving and celebrating the Pueblo language, culture, and values.
Our FoodCorps program is focused on building the connection of students’ Native language and culture to food and nutrition. The Indigenous way of life and traditions are HIGHLY connected to the environment and the food it provides. We know that traditional foods support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. We will work in concert with our cafeteria, FoodCorps and Native language program. Our students will engage in field trips and hands-on planting, harvesting, tasting and cooking to get a stronger understanding of local history and agriculture. Designing the education to move from inside the classroom to outdoors classroom experiences is paramount in our mission.
The FoodCorps member at San Felipe Day School is a part of the New Mexico cohort that includes 9 service members across 3 different service sites.
