Policy Landscape and Our Work

Missouri does not yet have a statewide School Meals for All policy in place, but momentum is building.

Multiple bills have been introduced that aim to establish free school meals for all students across the state, reflecting growing support for expanding access to nutritious meals in Missouri schools. These include:

SB 172 and HB 873, both of which would create the Missouri Free School Meals Program, reimbursing schools for offering free breakfast and lunch to all students—regardless of federal eligibility guidelines.

HB 112 and HB 998, which also propose universal free meals in public schools.

SB 131, titled the Missouri School Meals Act, which would guarantee free lunches for specific groups of students.

While none of these bills have yet passed, their introduction marks a significant step forward. FoodCorps will continue to monitor progress and support efforts to ensure that every Missouri student has access to nourishing school meals.
