Policy Landscape and Our Work
In early 2025, HB12 was introduced in the Alaska legislature to provide free breakfast and lunch for all Alaska public school students. The bill aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their family’s income, have access to nutritious meals at school. The bill is currently being considered by the legislature.
As is the case in many other states, this bill was inspired by the success of providing free meals to all students during the COVID-19 pandemic through federal waivers, which demonstrated the positive impact on student well-being and academic achievement.
