Policy Landscape and Our Work

Maryland provided school meals for all throughout the 2023–2024 school year. In January 2024, HB696 was introduced to make free breakfast and lunch permanently available to all students attending schools that participate in the federal School Breakfast or National School Lunch Programs. The bill did not pass. In January 2025, SB769 and HB1254 were introduced to expand participation in the Community Eligibility Provision with state funds and extend school meal access to more Maryland students. The bills did not pass out of committee.

FoodCorps continues to support partners and advocate for long-term, inclusive solutions that ensure all Maryland students have consistent access to healthy meals—year-round.
