Policy Landscape and Our Work
Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, Minnesota’s Free School Meals bill took effect, ensuring that all students in participating schools receive a free breakfast and lunch each school day, regardless of family income. The program has been lauded by advocates and parents for its positive impact on students and families. However, as of 2025, new discussions about potential changes to the program have emerged, including the possibility of implementing income-based eligibility for some aspects of the program.
