Policy Landscape and Our Work

North Dakota does not currently provide free school meals to all students. North Dakota voters will decide a School Meals for All constitutional initiative on November 3, 2026. Measure 2 would require public schools and public charter schools to provide one breakfast and one lunch at no charge to every enrolled student each school day.

If voters approve the measure, the statewide program is expected to begin in the 2027–28 school year. Until then, School Meals for All has not been enacted.
