of students have access to free school breakfast and lunch.

Policy Landscape and Our Work

Vermont passed legislation to provide free school meals for all students, regardless of income, making it a “Healthy School Meals for All” state in 2023. The Universal School Meals Act ensures that all public school students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Vermont leads the way in the advancement of Farm to School policies. This work is led by incredible partners like Vermont FEED, Hunger Free Vermont, and others with whom FoodCorps partners in efforts like the Northeast Farm to School Collaborative and Communities of Practice around Farm to School Institutes. Thanks to leadership and guidance from our partners in Vermont, FoodCorps has helped bring Farm to School Institutes to other states in the Northeast.
