Hood River County School District

Hood River County School District encompasses five elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one option school, serving approximately 3,800 students. We envision a school meal program that nourishes and empowers every student, creating vibrant cafeterias where they feel welcomed and valued. Our meals will celebrate the community’s rich agricultural heritage and diverse cultures, supporting both academic excellence and personal growth.

FoodCorps members implement a three-pronged nutrition and food education strategy. They work at two elementary schools to provide hands-on nutrition education including growing food, exploring new flavors through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and hosting taste-test events in the cafeteria. A School Nutrition member engages students in menu development and supports the district Wellness Policy team. All members focus on enhancing student, family, and community engagement and gathering feedback from our network of stakeholders.

HRCSD is currently the only site in Oregon, but is deeply connected to statewide efforts to promote Farm to School, School Meals for All, and other system-level work. The 3 member cohort connects both virtually and in-person throughout the year, with regular opportunities for professional development, connection, and community. We’re here to ensure you get the support you need as you create joyful experiences with food for kids at school!

Oregon is full of incredible food systems organizations, and you’ll be encouraged to explore your post-FoodCorps career with one of our many community partners, as one of 1000+ members of the Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Network.
