Lisbon Public Schools
Nestled along the picturesque Androscoggin River, Lisbon, Maine in the heart of Androscoggin County is a quintessential New England town known for its rich history, scenic landscapes and warm community. Lisbon boasts a 150-acre community park which includes walking trails, serene ponds with opportunities for fishing and kayaking. Lisbon is known as the birthplace of Moxie, one of the state’s earliest carbonated beverages, and the best word to describe our gritty, independent people. Each July, Lisbon hosts the Moxie Festival celebrating the beloved beverage and attracting folks from all over to join in the fun. Lisbon is a short distance from many attractions in Portland, Augusta and the Western Maine mountains.
FoodCorps School Nutrition Member will partner with the Lisbon Community School (LCS), a PK-5 elementary school. LCS is one of the 10 largest elementary schools in the state with an enrollment of over 650 students. This provides a unique opportunity to reach and impact a wide variety of students. The Corps Member will work with the Nutrition Director and Kitchen Manager to introduce more scratch cooking partnered with education through taste tests and other channels with the goal of broadening food acceptance among younger students. Lisbon is part of a three district partnership with the Lewiston and Auburn School Departments. Our FoodCorps member will collaborate closely with service members in both districts to help achieve our mutual goals. We look forward to having you as a part of our team!
Volunteering in Maine is special. When you partner with us in Maine, you are joining a family of 12 corps members serving all across the state. We connect both virtually and in person, spend time together and learn, and enjoy all the natural beauty and excellent food culture Maine has to offer. No matter where you are, you have the support of the cohort and FoodCorps Maine staff, Malia and Ryan who both grew up in Maine and love sharing all that is great about this state with service members who we hope will put down roots here and continue to be an important part of Maine.
