Reconstruction, Inc.

Reconstruction is a unique, full-service curriculum company offering supplemental, live-tutored, virtual courses that situate Black culture and achievement in an authentic, identity-affirming manner. Reconstruction currently partners with Jackson Public Schools providing virtual and in-person instruction during after school time.

FoodCorps service members serve alongside educators in partnering schools to provide food education and nutrition support during in-school time. Each service member is assigned to one school, where they serve regular classrooms in addition to supporting campus garden maintenance and education. Members serve alongside Reconstruction staff and tutors in the after school program to help support program quality.

In collaboration with community site partners, FoodCorps Mississippi serves over ten schools, reaching hundreds of students with hands-on experiences in gardening, nutrition, and food preparation. With a presence in the Mississippi Delta and the Capitol, service members are impacting while learning from both urban and rural communities across the state. Join FoodCorps Mississippi to serve up change with a cohort of community-centered changemakers!

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work comfortably with students to support academic, social-emotional, and identity development
  • Interpersonal skills that allow the member to effectively connect, inspire, and help build a cohesive team
  • Demonstrated willingness to understand and appreciate Reconstruction’s mission and can reflect the mission in actions and experience
  • Collaborative and creative orientation with an inherent ability to get things done independently
  • Flexibility and preparedness to flow in an ever-changing environment with grace and humor
  • Concern for minute details, with an ability to see the big picture
  • Access to transportation required
