FoodCorps Welcomes Mickeala Carter, Former USDA and House Ag Comms Leader, As VP of Policy and Communications

WASHINGTON, DC (September 16, 2025)—FoodCorps announced today that Mickeala Carter has joined the organization as its Vice President of Policy and Communications. In this new role for the nonprofit, Carter will lead the Policy and Communications department in federal and state policy strategy, public advocacy, and marketing and communications.

Carter brings over a decade of legislative, communications, and stakeholder engagement experience to FoodCorps. Previously, she was appointed by the Biden-Harris administration as the Deputy Director of Communications for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In that role, she was a leader in executing press and communications strategies for Secretary Tom Vilsack and worked in partnership with the White House, the Executive Branch, congressional staff, and public and private industry groups to amplify departmental and secretarial priorities.
She also served as the Director of Communications and External Affairs for the House Agriculture Committee, where she cultivated and maintained strong relationships with key stakeholders and advocates within the agriculture, food, and rural communities. Carter most recently served as Senior Director in the Strategic Communication segment at FTI Consulting, advising clients on legislative and political strategies.

FoodCorps’ policy and advocacy priorities include elevating food education as an academic priority; codifying free school meals for all students across the country; creating more pathways for farm to school and local procurement; supporting the school nutrition workforce; and modernizing school kitchens. Last month the organization welcomed its 15th class of corps members, who will support food education and nourishing school meals in eight states nationwide.
