Washington, DC (September 30, 2025)—Last week, FoodCorps was honored as Nonprofit of the Year at the Black Professionals in Food and Agriculture’s 4th Annual Awards Reception, held to honor the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference.
Leaders from the private and public sectors attended to celebrate FoodCorps and the other honorees, including Rep. Sanford Bishop (Congressional Member of the Year) and Rep. Shomari Figures (Emerging Champion for Farmers).
“Black Professionals in Food and Agriculture (BPFA) extends its sincere congratulations to FoodCorps on being recognized as Nonprofit of the Year,” said BPFA President Kent Roberson.
“This honor reflects FoodCorps’ unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child has access to nourishing food, comprehensive food education, and welcoming school environments where healthy eating can thrive. We commend the organization’s leadership and the measurable impact it continues to make in building a healthier and more equitable future for children and communities nationwide.”
Formed in 2020, Black Professionals in Food and Agriculture (BPFA) serves to promote Black policymakers, congressional staffers, business leaders, and others in the food and agriculture industries, where they are often underrepresented. Mickeala Carter, Vice President of Policy and Communications at FoodCorps, is a founding member.
“This award affirms that the impact of our work is being felt well beyond the communities we serve,” said Ashanti Lewis, Director of Federal Government Relations at FoodCorps. “It underscores FoodCorps’ growing influence in shaping the national conversation on child nutrition and food equity.”
FoodCorps is grateful for the recognition and happy to be honored alongside other changemakers in food and agriculture—thank you, BPFA!
