This Privacy Policy describes how we, FoodCorps Inc. (referred to as “we” “our” “us,” or “FoodCorps”), collect, use, and disclose your personal information. This Privacy Policy applies to information that we collect when you visit the FoodCorps website located at www.foodcorps.org and any related websites or online services that we offer, including our volunteer program, our social media pages, our communities, donation platforms, or ecommerce platforms (collectively, the “Site”), or when you interact with us through our email, advertising, or social media campaigns. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any third party platform (including donation platforms, payment processing platforms, or ecommerce platforms).

Our services are provided only to customers in the United States. Therefore, we do not seek to collect or process information from residents of the E.U. or other foreign countries and you should not access the site or services if you are located outside the United States.

By accessing or using this Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy. This policy may change from time to time, please see the section “Changes to this Privacy Policy” below.

Our Site is not intended for children under the age of 18. No one under the age of 18 may provide any personal information to us on the Site, or through our marketing channels. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from individuals under the age of 18, we will delete that information.

Information We Collect & How We Collect It

We collect several categories of information, including:

Information that you provide to us:

  • Information that you provide when you create a membership or alumni account on the Site, register to use any interactive services, messaging channels or similar features made available through the Site, fill out forms, use our online services, subscribe to our newsletter, or send communications to political representatives. This information may include your name, zip code, e-mail address, username, and password.
  • Information that you provide to us when you apply to be a FoodCorps Service Member such as your name, address, date of birth, proof of identity, phone number, pronouns, email address, education and work history, age, citizenship status, information required to conduct criminal background check, references, and any other information that you choose to include on your application.
  • Information that you provide to us when you communicate with us or communicate with third parties through our Site (like other members or political representatives). This information may include your name, email, address, phone number, and the contents of your communications.
  • Information you provide when you make donations to us through the Site. This information may include your name, email address, address, tax information, and phone number.
  • Information you provide us when you donate to us directly (and not via the Site). This information may include your name, email address, address, tax information, and phone number.
  • Information that you provide when you register to attend a webinar or other event. This information may include your name, email address, address, phone number, and other information about you that we may request. We may also collect information about your activity, like viewing length, downloads, content that you engaged with, and comments you make in the chat.
  • Information that you provide when you purchase merchandise from us. This information is shared with a third party ecommerce platform who shares it with us, and may include your name, email address, address, phone number, and other information about you that we may request.
  • Information you provide us when we conduct research, surveys, or interviews. This information may include your name, email address, information about your experience that is relevant to the research we conduct. In some instances, surveys of adults may include demographic information (such as race, gender, and age range) as well as information on position or job title (such as teacher or school nurse).

Automatically collected information:

  • Information that is collected automatically about your interaction with the Site, or through our email marketing campaigns, that may or may not personally identify you (this information may be combined with information that does personally identify you). See the Cookies and Automatic Tracking Technology Section below for additional details.

Information we receive from third party service providers:

  • Donations. We use a third-party service provider to process donation payments to us on the Site and we receive information about you directly from you and from the third-party service provider when you donate such as your name, donation amount, email address, and communication preferences. We do not receive any payment card or financial account information via the Site and the collection and sharing of your information by the service provider is governed by its own privacy policy and terms of service.
  • FoodCorps Connect. We use a third-party service provider to administer a virtual community space for current and prospective service members, alumni, and supervisors to communicate and may receive information about your registration status and activity on the platform. When you create an account with our third-party service provider, the third-party service provider and FoodCorps receive your profile information (name, email address, social media links, physical address, phone number, date of birth, and biographical information that you provide). The third-party also collects engagement data and makes that information available to us (participation, activity within the community, jobs shared, donations made through the third-party platform, usage information). When you submit content (including a post, comment, or chat message) to the community space, any registered users of the platform will be able to see that content, the username associated with the content, and the date and time you originally submitted the content.
  • Email and Webinar Service Providers: We use third-party email marketing and webinar providers to provide webinars and communicate with you. We will receive information from these third parties related to your use or activity within the webinar or your interaction with our emails.
  • E-Commerce Platform Provider: We use a third-party e-commerce service provider to process merchandise purchases made through our online store. We receive information from the third party when you make a purchase, including your name, email address, shipping address, phone number, order details, and product preferences. We do not receive any payment card or financial account information, and the collection and sharing of your information by the third party ecommerce platform is governed by its own privacy policy and terms of service.
  • Alumni Connect: We use a third-party messaging service provider to facilitate our Alumni Connect platform, which enables alumni communication and engagement through dedicated channels. We receive information from the third-party messaging service provider including your profile information (name, email address, display name, profile photo), activity, message metadata, channel participation, engagement metrics, and similar information. FoodCorps administrators may have access to analytics, user activity summaries, and content shared in channels for community management purposes. Your interactions with the third party messaging platform are subject to it’s privacy policy and terms of service.

Cookies & Automatic Tracking Technologies

Like many websites, we and our third-party service providers use “cookies” or other automatic tracking technologies (like web beacons or flash cookies) to collect information. “Cookies” are alphanumeric identifiers in the form of data files that are inserted and stored by your web browser on your computer’s hard drive.

Through cookies or similar tracking technologies, we collect usage information like activity data, IP address, the website you came from before visiting the Site, browser type and setting, time/date, language preferences, and device information (device ID, unique device identifiers, crash data), and other similar kinds of information.

You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. Most Internet browsers will allow you to block cookies from being stored on your computer and to delete cookies stored on your computer. However, if you choose to eliminate cookies, the functionality of the Site may be impaired.

We use the following types of cookies on the Site for the following purposes:

  • Functional Cookies/Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are required to provide the Site and to enable you to use its features.
  • Analytics and Performance Cookies: We use these cookies to collect information about traffic to our Site and how users use our Site. It includes the number of visitors, the websites that referred them to our Site, the pages that they visited on our Site, what time of day they visited, whether they have visited our Site before, and other similar information. We use this information to help operate our Site more efficiently, to gather broad demographic information and to monitor the level of activity. We also use Google Analytics for this purpose (please see below for more information on Google Analytics).
  • Social Media Cookies: These cookies are used when you share information using a social media sharing button or “like” button on our Site or engage with our content on or through social media sites. The social media sites will record your activities.
  • Targeted and Advertising Cookies: The purpose of these cookies is to provide you with a more personal experience and to remember you when you visit our Site. Targeted cookies will track your browsing habits across websites to enable us to show advertising which is more likely to be of interest to you. These cookies use information about your browsing history to group you with other users who have similar interests. Based on that information, third-party advertisers can place cookies to enable them to show ads which we/they think will be relevant to your interests while you are on our Site. These cookies also store your location, including your latitude and longitude, which helps us/them show you locale-specific content.

Opting out only means that those selected members should no longer deliver certain Interest-based Advertising to you but does not mean you will no longer receive any targeted content and/or ads (e.g. from other ad networks). Also, if your browsers are configured to reject cookies when you visit these opt-out webpages, or you subsequently erase your cookies, use a different device or web browser or use a non-browser-based method of access (e.g. mobile app), your NAI / DAA browser-based opt-out may not, or may no longer, be effective.

Social Media

You can choose to access certain social media websites and services that are owned and/or controlled by third parties (including, without limitation, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others) (such websites and services, collectively, the “Social Media”). When you elect to access and use Social Media, you will be sharing your information (which will include personal information if you elect to share such information) with those Social Media providers. As with other third-party sites, the information that you share with the Social Media providers is governed by the privacy policies and terms of service of the providers of such Social Media provider and not by the policies and procedures we describe here. You may also be able to modify your privacy settings with these Social Media providers to, for example, control what information the Social Media providers disclose to other entities, including FoodCorps.

How We Use the Information We Collect

We use information that we collect, including any personal information collected:

  • To assess the candidacy of service member applicants;
  • To process and receive donations or facilitate purchases;
  • To provide the messaging and interactive features of the Site to you;
  • To present the Site and its contents to you, to support and improve the Site and the services that we provide;
  • To provide, support, and improve our community experience;
  • For research and development purposes;
  • To analyze the Site and to estimate audience size or usage;
  • To remember your preferences;
  • To provide you with information, or services that you request from us or that may be of interest to you;
  • To market our services to you;
  • To fulfill any other purpose for which you provided it;
  • To provide you with notices about your account;
  • To carry out our legal obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us;
  • To notify you about changes to our Site or any services we offer or provide though it;
  • To investigate misuse or misconduct;
  • To help protect you, our service providers, and others from fraud, malicious activity, or other privacy or security-related concerns; and
  • For other notified purposes, with your consent or at your direction.

How We Share Your Personal Information

We may disclose personal information to the following categories of service providers: website service providers, email and marketing engagement service providers, payment processors, ecommerce platform providers, communication channel providers, professional advisors and consultants, data analytics service providers, cloud storage service providers, software and website development service providers, email service providers, and other similar types of service providers. We may also share information with social media and website analytics providers who are not considered our service providers.

We may also share personal information for the following purposes:

  • To enforce our rights against you or in connection with a breach of this Privacy Policy or any other terms and conditions;
  • To third parties or legal authorities when required by any applicable law, rule regulation, subpoena, or other legal process; or
  • To prevent any activity that we consider to be prohibited or illegal or damaging to FoodCorps or third-parties.

Unsubscribe to Marketing Messages

You may choose to unsubscribe from marketing emails by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link in any marketing email from us, or by emailing info@foodcorps.org and asking to be unsubscribed from further marketing messages. Although we will remove you from our marketing lists you may still receive transactional messages related to the Site or our services.

Security

We take reasonable steps (including technical, administrative, and physical measures) to protect your personal data from loss, misuse, or unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, taking into due account the risks involved in the processing and the nature of the information. However, no website, application, Internet, or email transmission is ever fully secure or error free, and we do not guarantee the security of any information.

How Long We Retain Information

We retain your personal information for as long as we have an ongoing legitimate business need to do so (for example, to provide you with a service you have requested or to comply with applicable legal, tax, or accounting requirements).

The criteria used to determine appropriate retention period for personal information include:

  • The amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information.
  • The purpose(s) for which the personal information was collected and used.
  • Whether we have a legal obligation to retain personal information or whether retaining personal information is necessary to resolve disputes, including the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

The Site may contain links to other websites. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these third-party websites. We exercise no control over how your information is stored, maintained, or displayed by third parties or on third-party sites.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

From time to time, we may desire to use Personal Data for uses not previously disclosed in our Privacy Policy. If our practices change regarding previously collected Personal Information in a way that would be materially less restrictive than stated in the version of this Privacy Policy in effect at the time we collected the information, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice and obtain consent to any such uses as may be required by law. We may change this Privacy Policy at any time. We will indicate when such changes are effective by updating the above effective date. By continuing to access or use the Site after we have posted a modification or have provided you with notice of a modification, you indicate your agreement to the modified Privacy Policy.
