DECEMBER 7, 2020 – At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant impacts on school environments nationwide, the importance of providing access to and education around healthy food for school-aged children is greater than ever. In support of non-profit FoodCorps’ mission to connect kids with healthy food in school, North Italia will donate 2 percent of proceeds from all gift card sales now through October 31, 2021 to FoodCorps. Holiday shoppers can also take advantage of North Italia’s gift card promotion — receive a $20 bonus card for every $100 purchased in gift cards — through the end of the year to support FoodCorps.
“FoodCorps values North Italia’s commitment to scratch cooking with local and seasonal ingredients, an ethos that can help bring communities together around healthy food,” said Curt Ellis, co-founder and CEO of FoodCorps. “Our new partnership will further strengthen FoodCorps’ mission and work to increase access to healthy food and food education for students and their families across the country.”
As part of the nationwide AmeriCorps service network, FoodCorps serves communities across the country offering140,000 kids hands-on food education, garden-based learning and access to healthier food in schools. FoodCorps provides resources and tools to support schools, families, and community partners who join the organization in promoting healthy school food environments. Data shows that six in 10 students who engage in 10 or more hours of hands-on learning show improved attitudes toward vegetables, which is one of the strongest predictors of a healthy diet and three in four FoodCorps-supported schools adopt new practices that help get kids eating healthier.
