FoodCorps Statement on the Inauguration of President Joe Biden

Today marks a monumental day in our nation’s history, as we leave behind a traumatic four years and welcome an administration that we hope will bring us closer to an equitable, just world.

President Joe Biden has a longstanding history of supporting kids, families, and communities, and we are hopeful that his policies, Cabinet selections, words, and actions as president will advance that legacy and achieve ambitious progress toward a more just future. As Vice President during the Obama administration, Joe Biden was part of that administration’s Let’s Move! campaign, which increased access to healthy food in school. The new president has indicated his intention to invest in schools and students, and we’re hopeful this means he will extend much-needed resources to our nation’s heroic school nutrition professionals who have faced unprecedented challenges in ensuring all kids are nourished during the pandemic. We’re also heartened by the president’s expressed commitment to local food systems and to national service and hope to serve as a partner in fulfilling this commitment.

Today, we join with other Americans in celebrating a peaceful transition to the new administration. We look forward to working alongside the Biden administration to build a better world for all our nation’s kids and supporting the efforts towards an equitable recovery from COVID-19.
